The foundation is founded and named after Mlwandle, a traditional leader in KwaZulu natal (KZN) who believed in self-reliance and social development, hence the foundation is founded after him. Mlwandle Foundation (the foundation), is Non-Profit Organization under Mlwandle Group based in South Africa, KZN under Harry Gwala District, Ubuhlebezwe Local Municipality on Lot 3203, Umxotwa Farm.
Mlwanlde Group is the umbrella entity under it there a various subsidiaries which is trying to make a differ4nce in addressing socio economic challenges in societies.
The foundation, was founded in 2022, primarily on realisation of the need to address socio- economic and environmental challenges in South Africa with Harry Gwala District in KwaZulu Natal as a base.
The concept of wanting to make a change came into being during the 2019 COVID 19 pandemic.
The global impact of Covid 19 triggered the need for societies to start finding means of survival in their own locality. Any change, no matter how small, makes a difference.
The July 2021 riots that were dominated by violence, destruction and looting in KwaZulu Natal and part of Gauteng reaffirmed the socio economic state (Poverty and Inequality) of South Africa. From the government’s 2021 unrest report post the looting, the violence could be viewed in the context of multiple crises and challenges facing South Africa. Of importance to the foundation are : high unemployment rate, with youth unemployment above 70% and no consistent, continuous plan to address this challenge, inherited high levels of poverty and deep inequality.
From the analysis above it goes without saying that everyone MUST create something to make a difference and contribute to the solution.
It is therefore not optional that socio economic challenges must be attended to from all walks of life. Hence Mlwandle Group, through the subsidiaries, aims to make some contribution. This socio economic contribution is in particular targeted to be achieved through Mlwandle Foundation

Founded in 2022, the Mlwandle Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to addressing socio-economic and environmental challenges in South Africa, with a focus on KwaZulu-Natal’s Harry Gwala District. Inspired by Mlwandle, a visionary traditional leader, we champion self-reliance, community development, and innovative solutions to societal challenges.
Our initiatives are grounded in the pressing need to tackle high unemployment rates, poverty, and inequality. From the lessons of the COVID-19 pandemic to the unrest in 2021, we recognize the urgency of empowering communities to achieve sustainable development.
